District Surveillance officer interacts with Public Health students of Edward and Cynthia Institute of Public Health

“Public Health is a branch of knowledge that is best learned in the field amidst communities” said Dr. Naveenchandra Kulal, District Surveillance Officer of Dakshina Kannada district while interacting with the students of Edward & Cynthia Institute of Public Health (ECIPH). He also observed that the knowledge acquired in the field of Public Health must go into making policies that can transform the community health.

Dr. Naveenchandra was speaking on the occasion of distributing the letter of appreciation to recognize the valuable contribution extended by the MPH Scholars of ECIPH. MPH Scholars of Department of Public Health, Yenepoya University who are trained in the field by ECIPH had actively participated in the Vector Borne Disease Outbreak Investigation carried out by the District Vector Borne Disease control Office, District Health and Family Welfare, D K District, Government of Karnataka. In this practical field exposure students were trained and conducted household health survey, health promotion and IEC activities, source identification and source reduction, larvicidal interventions, integrated vector control management and epidemiological investigation which are the components of public health curriculum.

In his interaction Dr. Naveenchandra lauded the students for their interest and the dedication shown in the field work and urged the students to show the same level of dedication in their career as well. He also encouraged the MPH scholars to utilize the knowledge acquired in these field works in their Public Health career in future. He also handed over the letters of appreciation to the MPH scholars and wished them success in future endeavors. District Senior Health Inspecting Officer Mr. Rudresh and Director of ECIPH Dr. Edmond Fernandes were also present on the occasion.
